Committee Competition Rules

Before entering any competition, please consider your domestic, social, and other sporting event
obligations and prioritise your commitments to be fair to all participating players. Any request to
the Committee will be considered and determined under the relevant R & A Rules.

 

Unless otherwise stated a competition arranged by a Golf Committee (“Committee”) shall be “Elite
Golf” played from the designated Tee Colour. The Local Rule for alternative to “stroke and distance
for ball out of bounds or lost ball” does not apply.
 

In addition to any listed competition terms, a player:

      · enters the competition when requesting a playing card and answering “yes” to the listed competition;
      · must be aware that:
      · submitting a scorecard on day 1 does not automatically include any subsequent day of the competition;
      · answering “yes” to the listed competition on any subsequent day past day 1 extends the competition for that day;
      · failure to follow the follow the competition prompts when requesting a playing card will be deemed withdrawal from the competition;
      · the first recorded score is the qualifying score for the competition;
      · qualifying is to be played on or by the dates and times set out in the playing program.

 

The Committee will specify the date and time when, or the date by when, a match must be
completed (“Completion Date”):

      · each player has an equal responsibility to arrange completion of their match;
      · if attempts to arrange a match are unsuccessful, a player may report the circumstances to the Committee before the Completion Date;
      · the Committee shall endeavour to assist the players complete their match by the Completion Date.

 

A player requesting an extension of the Completion Date must make an application to the
Committee by emailing a member of the Committee on or before the Completion Date. The
Committee shall have regard to all circumstances including:

      · death or serious injury in the immediate family;
      · National or Provincial Representation in Golf including HB Golf Academy Requirements;
      · Club Representation in other competitions.

 

If an agreement cannot be reached between the players and the match is not completed by the
Completion Date the Committee shall decide the result of the match after considering all the
circumstances and treating the situation in a way that is consistent, fair and reasonable with how
similar situations are treated under the R & A Rules.
 

If the players either fail to complete the match or post the match result on the competition draw by
the Completion Date the Committee may decide the result by either disqualifying both players or
putting the player named first or second into the next round.
 

In any matter under dispute the decision of the Committee shall be final.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

 

Club Championship Course Handicap Divisions

Senior               Up to and including 7

Intermediate    8 to 12 inclusive

Junior A            13 to 17 inclusive

Junior B            18 to 36 inclusive

A player’s division shall be determined by his course handicap as at the commencement of the first round of the Club Championship Qualifying rounds. Once established this shall be the player’s division for this year’s Championship.

The player’s playing handicap will be determined on the day as the course handicap as published in DotGolf and is subject to change during the competition.

 

Stroke Play Championships

Shall be competed for over two rounds of stroke play with the player returning the best (two) combined gross scores in each division (as detailed above) shall be declared the winner and in the event of a tie the trophy decided by golf manager countback system.

In addition to the above:

  • The player returning the best (two) combined gross scores shall be awarded the Captains Trophy and in the event of a tie the trophy decided by golf manager countback system.
  • The player returning the best (two) combined net scores shall be awarded the Malcolm Bellerby Cup and in the event of a tie the trophy decided by golf manager countback system.

 

 

Club Championship Match Play

  • Qualifying shall be completed over four rounds of stroke play and the players returning the best two of four gross scores from each division (as detailed above) shall determine the order of qualification for the Match Play section.
  • The top sixteen players of each division shall be drawn to play matches under scratch conditions (handicap does not apply) over 18 holes with the finals being contested over 36 holes.
  • The second sixteen players from each division shall be drawn to play matches under handicap conditions over 18 holes.
  • All matches to be played on blue tees only.

 

CLUB TROPHIES COMPETITIONS:

 

Pharazyn Cup - Presented by the late Mr G M Pharazyn.

Conditions:

  • Awarded to the player returning the best net Aggregate score of two medal rounds during the qualifying rounds for the Patrons Trophy and ID McCaskill Rose Bowl.
  • Handicap limit of 36.

 

Patrons Trophy - Presented by the late Mr R D Kettle.

Conditions:

  • For handicaps 19 and under on the day of the first qualifying round.
  • The better one of two qualifying rounds played under medal conditions to count.
  • The sixteen (16) players returning the best net scores will be drawn to play Match Play on handicap.
  • All matches to be played over 18 holes and on blue tees only.

I D McCaskill Rosebowl - Presented by the late Mr I D McCaskill.

Conditions:

  • For handicaps 20 and over on the day of the first qualifying round.
  • The better one of two qualifying rounds played under medal conditions to count.
  • The sixteen (16) players returning the best net scores will be drawn to play Match Play on handicap.
  • All matches to be played over 18 holes and on blue tees only.

The Tremain Fourball Salver

Conditions:

  • Pair’s event where the combined medal handicaps to be not less than 24.
  • One qualifying round of combined stableford played on handicap with the best 16 scores to qualify for Match Play.
  • Match Play off scratch using the South African system. i.e., partner’s scores are multiplied at each hole to determine the winner of the hole. Both partners must hole out.
  • All matches to be played over 18 holes and on blue tees only.

 

Humphries Cup - Presented by the late Mr John Humphries.

Conditions:

  • Four Ball Best Ball Match Play on Handicap.
  • One qualifying round of Four Ball Best Ball Par.
  • Best 32 pairs to qualify to play.
  • Maximum individual handicap 24. Players on handicaps higher than 24 may enter but must play off 24 in the qualifying round and subsequent matches, unless their handicap reduces below that level prior to any Match Play round.

 

Donnelly Cup - Presented by the late Mr G P Donnelly.

Conditions:

  • For Handicaps up to 36 on the day of the first qualifying round.
  • To be played over two medal qualifying rounds.
  • The sixteen (16) members returning the best aggregate net scores will be drawn to play Match Play on handicap.
  • All matches to be played over 18 holes and on blue tees only.

Donnelly Cup Group - Presented by the late Mr A M McClurg.

Conditions:

  • Played for by the second sixteen (16) qualifiers returning the best aggregate net scores from the Donnelly Cup qualifying rounds will be drawn to play Match Play on handicap.
  • All matches to be played over 18 holes and on blue tees only.

President's Trophy

Conditions:

  • Presented to the member returning the best aggregate (two) net scores in the qualifying rounds of the Donnelly Cup.

 

A J Douglas Veterans Cup - Age limit 60 years and over.

Conditions:

  • Players who enter on the entry sheet provided by the date indicated shall be randomly drawn to play Match Play on handicap.
  • Matches shall be played off the tee of the day i.e. weekdays from the white tees, weekends and public holidays from the blue tees.
  • All matches are to be played over 18 holes.

 

Kapi Tareha Memorial Trophy - Presented by the family of the late Kapi Tareha,

Conditions:

  • For the lowest gross 18-hole score in medal competition round during the season by a member of the Napier Golf Club.
  • In the event of a tie, the Cup shall be held by the player with the lowest net round on handicap.

A J Davy Cup - A Stableford competition for Thursday golfers.

Conditions:

  • The aggregate of the best 4 of 6 Stableford Rounds to be on specified rounds on a Thursday afternoon.

NZ Insurance Limited - Awarded to the Club Player of the Year.

Conditions:

  • The winner is determined by The Committee as the player who has performed best in the Clubs Competitions outlined above. All competitions shall be considered equal when comparing individual results. Points awarded on the following basis:
  • Club Trophy Competitions                              Winner           10 points
  • Club Trophy Competitions                              Runners Up     5 points
  • Club Trophy Qualifying                                    Winner             5 points
  • Club Trophy Qualifying                                    Runners Up     2 points
  • Club Trophy Match Play                                   Winners         10 points
  • Club Trophy Match Play                                   Runners Up     5 points
  • Club Championship Stroke Play                      Winners         20 points
  • Club Championship Stroke Play                      Runner Ups   10 points
  • Club Championship Match Play Qualifying   Winners          10 points
  • Club Championship Match Play Qualifying   Runner Ups      5 points
  • Club Championship Match Play                       Winners         20 points
  • Club Championship Match Play                       Runner Ups   10 points
  • No points will be awarded for plate or second sixteen events. Only Championship or Trophy competition shall be awarded points.

 

SUMMER COMPETITIONS

As the summer season has no restrictions on who may participate in Club Competitions, all members shall have equal playing rights. Juniors and Student Members are welcome to participate in all events.

Clarke Fourball Championship: Presented by J W Clarke.

Conditions:

  • Four Ball Combined Stableford Match play competition.
  • Maximum Handicap of 36
  • Competition Tees – Blue Tees only

Clarke Fourball Plate: Presented by J W Clarke.

Conditions:

  • Event for first round losers in the Clarke Fourball Championship.
  • Maximum Handicap of 36
  • Competition Tees – Blue Tees only

Summer Stratford Salver: Presented by V W Stratford.

Conditions:

  • The four best competitors returning four (4) best Stableford cards during the months of November, December, and January will be drawn to play Match play on handicap.
  • Maximum Handicap – 36
  • Competition Tees – Blue Tees only

Summer Championship Cup: Presented by the late Mr. J. J. Mullany.

Conditions:

  • Match play on handicap over the months of November, December, and January.
  • Field is limited to the first 64 Players listed on the entry sheet and depending on entries the Committee may divide the competition into Senior and Junior divisions.
  • Maximum Handicap - 36
  • Competition Tees – Blue Tees only
